Today was the day when a Marathon race took place at Lahore!
Yes, the liberty market was crowded, the road from Sadiq trade center to
Liberty roundabout was covered by security personal and emergency workers…. And
the most beautiful thing was, the people running to reach the finishing line.
I think it’s a very healthy step taken by Punjab government.
I was in my office at that time, when a huge crowd of ladies, men and women,
children were running towards the finishing line, the Milli-Naghmaz were
playing in the background and the atmosphere was quite patriotic.
I was standing with the Chowkidhar of the plaza, where our
office is located. I was expecting some skeptical and harsh remarks from him
regarding the running women in “objectionable” dresses but contrary to my
thoughts, he said “ such events should take place! “
I was amazed by what he said. As most of my “highly educated”
friends were calling this race “merasan race” J
But that Chowkidhar was more enlightened then most of them. He was telling me,
such events should take place, as it will ward off the frustration from our
minds. We are living in such hard times, we are always occupied by different
issues, such events are a wave of refreshment! I heard these words from a
Chowkidhar! He was telling me, I am sitting here since morning and really
enjoy different beautiful people doing this great thing. The government should arrange
more of such activities for us always worrying Pakistanies J
Hmm, that sound great, I think our society is transformed a
lot. In the past such events and races were looked with embarrassed looks. But now
they are accepted, now people even like me, enjoy such events and believe me
they are really refreshing.
The other good news, the ultra famous drama serial Hamsafar
has finally reached an end. I don’t know the climax exactly, but some of my
friends were telling the ending was really tragic.
Currently a helicopter is hovering the Qadaffi stadium as
prize distribution ceremony is going on for the winners of the Lahore Marathon
race!
